Green goodness

Power to the plants! Even in the crowded, carefully designed fashion city called Milano, no empty space is left without the green goods. Which makes the people who suck at fashion and design feel at home too. Clearly, I'm talking about me. After flicking through my Roadtrip to Italy photo album, I noticed most pictures I took, were of plants and flowers. Ah well, you know what they say.
Once a hippie, always a hippie.

Talking of plants, our Brussels balcony is slowly but surely becoming a true garden. Fake grass and everything. Nothing beats sunset over the Belgian capital with the feel of plastic grass under your feet. With a glass of pink wine, a seemingly endless stash of chocolate and fresh travelplans. Summer is bringing tons of inspiration and a herbalism degree. For now, I feel like working my ass off to save up for Canadian travels. In the mean time, there are festivals to dance to, rooftop terraces to chill at and flowers to smell.

Aaaahhh happy days.

Road trip to Italy part 3: Milano designo

I'm the kind of person who looks like she rolled out of bed and grabbed whatever clothes she could find from under her bed. Because I AM that person. I don't care too much about clothes and whether their colours match or not. All I care about is the amount of glitter I can use in one outfit. The right answer is: as much as possible. So when I made my bag for our Italian roadtrip, I filled it up with glitters and other pieces of clothing that have nothing to do with each other. Also, I don't like the idea of having long hair to comb and take care of and turn into a particular hair style. I just take my curls and roll them up into a ball on top of my head. That's fine by me. Until I arrived in Milano.

There is probably no place on earth where people spend more time and effort on their outfit than Milano. For the first time in my life I felt underdressed. I had the feeling the 'out of bed rolling, grabbing random clothes' thing is not acceptable in the city of fashion. Not that I care. Just... There were people who styled their hair in shape of a hat! I loved it! I thought of how well I would fit in, if I just brought my wedding dress with me. Milano is one big dress up!

This time I was the invisible Alice in her wonderland which was actually a design festival. Small streets were transformed into playgrounds. Like a hungry crocodile, I walked through the alleys and ate up every bit of design I found along the way. My little camera, messy style and me blended in the festival crowd. A whirlwind of colours, young designers and aperol spritz. A glimpse of Milano memories.

Road trip to Italy part 1: the way there

Oh man I love road trips! I'm not sure if it's the different sceneries flashing by or the fact that I don't drive so I have both hands free to play dj. This time though, more creativity was required of me. The car was screaming for CD's and well, I don't have any in Brussels. But god must have heard our prayers because the day before leaving, I found a free HITBOX album at the flea market. The music is so damn good, even the guys on the flea market don't bother to ask money for it. Possibly the only album that can start with Macarena and end with George Michael. The wonderful thing about not knowing how to drive and not having to shuffle an iPod around looking for fine tunes, is that I had both arms and full upper body free to DANCE!

So you can imagine the road trip went swell. Even better if you know that next to me was sitting, driving and dancing my dear friend Freddy, a multilingual white African man. We had nine hours to kill, so we learnt the lyrics of Macarena by heart. We also closely studied the dancemoves of this video: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WCevP9DJtIY and realised that bitch stole my moves! If you have ever seen me on a dancefloor, festival or any square meter after midnight, you can agree these moves are an exact copy of mine. If you never had the pleasure to watch me break out in nineties classics on the street, just look at the video and you get the point.

The down side of playing songs like these on the way to your travel destination, is that they won't leave your head for a second during your entire trip. Trust me. Even if you have no clue what they are actually singing, you will sing along. Night and day. We took them with us to a dreamlike squad in Geneve, through the tiny streets of Aosta and on the Milano design week. And back.
