Bangkok nights

Who would have thought
one day I would be calling Bangkok
my home just for a short while
just for a week
I would walk down her streets
taking in the smells
coulours, people
I remember wandering
around the dark
of my hometown
closing my eyes recognising
the scent of Bangkok by night
as the garbarge truck drove by
breathing in the air
thick with smog and dirt
piling up people in building blocks
traffic jams fill up all roads
I rent a cheap room
in the shabby part of town
as shiny faces cover
Khao San Road like
fast moving ants
not knowing
where to go
I leave the night behind
become a rat in the race
of railway markets and blues bars
the whisky flows
we dance until doors close
in this sin city
you can be whoever
you want to be
